No entanto, a ideia foi posta de parte porque acharam que os fãs iriam achar isso muito estranho e não iam gostar.
Os Philes do forum X-Files Ultimate (X-Fus) decidiram fazer então uma petição na net para mostrar à Showtime, Gillian e David, que não só já vimos coisas mais estranhas nos X-Files, mas que adorariamos a ideia de Gillian participar em Californication....

In an interview for Maxim Magazine (May 2008 edition), Gillian Anderson was asked 'Have you watched Californication, where he (David Duchovny) plays a sexaholic novelist?', here was her answer:
‘I have. I actually thought it would be funny to play a character who's obsessed with Scully and wants to have sex dressed as Scully. But it didn't happen. I guess having sex with David on the show would be just too weird for fans to see.’
Hey we're touched by your concern and we'd like to ease your mind: as X-Files fans, didn't we see weirder things than two people having sex? YES, we did! Didn't we love it? YES, we did!
So, after much heart-searching of a few seconds, we've come to the conclusion that we can handle the idea; in other words, we're convinced that GILLIAN ANDERSON & DAVID DUCHOVNY REUNITED ON CALIFORNICATION would be THE BEST THING EVER, to say nothing of all the viewing records which would be broken!!
By the way, just a reminder:
Anderson: Do you think we could make a non-"X-Files" movie together?
Duchovny: Absolutely. It would be fun to play characters whose relationship is more overt than covert. It would be fun to have a volatile relationship. (March 26, 2000, ‘The Truth about David Duchovny’ interview by Gillian Anderson).
